Excellent Art

One of my google reader feeds is from a site called BoingBoing. It’s really a collection of random things.

Today they shared about Brian McCarthy’s photo that is art of the Manifest Hope:DC Gallery.  Personally I was taken aback by the photo and I have a deep appreication for it.  Direct link to their posting here.

Here’s the thing.  To me the beauty of art is the emotions that it can envoke.  Emotions that are more than just surface.  It’s being able to create something deeper than just surface reactions.

Enough of my rambling, here’s the picture and the artist’s comments.

Obama (toy) at the Lorraine Motel

“People either love the shot or hate it, mostly because of the darker implications of putting Obama there. My goal was to foster discussion, especially since race is still the elephant in the room. For reasons very worthy of discussion, Obama was the only candidate NOT to visit the Lorraine…”

The toy, along with toys of many other random folks, are available at Jailbreak Toys.
